What is NSP (National Scholarship Portal) ?

The NSP, or National Scholarship Portal, serves as a comprehensive platform that facilitates various services related to student applications, receipt, processing, sanctioning, and disbursal of scholarships. It’s a pivotal component of the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP), operating as a one-stop solution for scholarship-related matters.

Benefits of NSP include:

  1. Centralized access to information on all available scholarships.
  2. Ability to submit a single application for multiple scholarships.
  3. Automated suggestion of eligible schemes for students.
  4. Reduction of duplicate applications.
  5. Maintenance of master data for institutions and courses nationwide.

Objective of NSP- National Scholarship Portal

  1. Ensure timely distribution of scholarships to students.
  2. Offer a unified platform for multiple scholarship programs by both Central and State Governments.
  3. Establish a clear and transparent database of scholars.
  4. Prevent redundancy in processing applications.
  5. Standardize and align different scholarship schemes and regulations.
  6. Implement Direct Benefit Transfer for efficient scholarship disbursal.

NSP Pre Matric and Post Matric Scholarships Selection Process

The selection process for both fresh and renewal applicants for Pre-Matric and Post-Matric scholarships under NSP follows specific guidelines:

For Fresh Applicants:

Given the fixed and limited number of NSP scholarships available for minorities annually, priority is placed on selecting candidates. Emphasis is placed on economic need rather than academic performance, with applicants required to submit an income certificate as per para-11(ii). In cases of equal economic status, preference is given based on the applicant’s date of birth, with senior applicants being favored.

For Renewal Applicants:

Renewal cases do not involve the generation of a merit list. Renewal applicants qualify for the scholarship if they have achieved a minimum of 50% in their previous year’s examinations at the same institute and in the same course. Additionally, their application must undergo verification by all relevant authorities designated by the Ministry of Minority Affairs and be approved by State Governments/UTs.

NSP Scholarships Distribution Rule

The distribution rule for NSP scholarships allocates scholarships to minority communities recognized under Section 2 (c) of the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992, including Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jains, and Zoroastrians (Parsis). A total of five lakh online scholarships are aimed to be distributed, comprising both Fresh and Renewal scholarships. The distribution of scholarships among States/Union Territories is based on the minority population data from the Census of 2001 for 2017-18 and from the Census of 2011 for 2018-19 and 2019-20, as outlined in Appendices A and B.

Required Documents for NSP Scholarship

During the online application process for scholarships on NSP, students must upload specific documents to complete their application. However, if the scholarship amount is less than INR 50,000, no documents need to be uploaded. Instead, students should submit copies of the required documents to their respective schools, colleges, or institutes. For all other scholarships, students should ensure they have the following documents:

  1. Bank Passbook
  2. Educational documents
  3. Aadhaar number
  4. Domicile Certificate (as specified in the respective scholarship guidelines)
  5. Income Certificate (as specified in the respective scholarship guidelines)
  6. Caste Certificate (if applicable)
  7. Bonafide student certificate from school/institute (if the institute/school is different from the domicile state of the applicant)
